The Burren, Ireland
This mini book/zine showcases the work I did studying abroad in Ireland. I studied the relationship between art and words.
I went on hikes and immersed myself in the landscape writing poetry then came back to the studio and illustrated the poems I wrote. While doing this, I also worked on a large 3ft. x 7ft. landscape that showcased certain qualities of the Burren (cover illustration). Then when completed I took a two-week break, not looking at the illustration, and when I came back I wrote a poem (back cover) about the large illustration. The project explored how art and words are interchangeable. One can write about a landscape and an artist can illustrate those words through the writing, but an artist can illustrate a landscape and a writer can write about the landscape through the art.

I orginally hand wrote the poems into the illustrations. When I came back to the US and started to design the cover and give it a more professional look, I chose to switch out my hand written poems for a more uniform font. I still kept to a handwritten style font, but it greatly improved readability.
